Best Ways to Save Money: Drop Fast Food Like a Hot Potato

Dropping fast food is well worth the effort. You’ll save both money and your health.

Fast food has the monopoly on convenience so that’s where we’ll begin. We need to make our own food that allows us to break that convenience habit. And … all you need is 1 afternoon per week and you will save money by not hitting up the McD’s every morning on your way to work.

Some ideas:

Cook and prep these in one afternoon during your weekend and put them in freezer safe bags. They will be there for you during the week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • Burritos – just about anything is good in a tortilla. Fill it up with your favorite mixture like ham and eggs for breakfast or beans and cheese for lunch and chicken fajitas for dinner.
  • Sandwiches – english muffins and bagels freeze up best. Pre-make you favorite sandwiches and put in the freezer. Fried eggs and english muffins work well for breakfast. Cold cuts and cheese for lunch and/or dinner.
*Tip – spread the condiments in between the cheese and meat. This will help your bread from going soggy after being frozen.
  • Hot Pockets – use pre-made pizza crust like in the pop-can. Roll out the pre-made dough and cut into squares. Add your favorite filling – ham cubes and cheese are a favorite, or pizza sauce, cheese and pepperoni, or cheese and broccoli. Fold over and pinch the sides together. Bake in the oven. Then freeze.
  • Pancakes – pancakes freeze wonderfully. Cook up a few dozen during the weekend when you have more time and put them in a freezer bag and freeze. There are several toppings for pancakes, pb&j, honey, jam, cream cheese and more.

You’re only limited by your imagination. Just think of foods that both freeze and de-thaw well.
