A part time job can help you earn some extra cash this holiday season and help make ends meet during this economic down turn. If you’re one of the lucky few where you’re financial interests are ok but could be better, take the opportunity to grow your money and savings with a part time job.
Companies are hiring to help with holiday shoppers and it’s a great time to make a little extra cash for whatever you may need it for.
Tips before you start looking:
- Go to credible part-time job search websites to begin your research. Sites like Career Builder, Snag a Job, and Simply Hired are all good sites to begin your search.
- Are you seasonal or part-time? – There is a difference and you need to be clear on what you want and what the employer offers before you go searching. Seasonal workers will only work during a particular season ie. the up coming Holiday season, and a seasonal job is not likely to turn into a full-time or long-term position. On the other hand, a part-time position can have the potential of turning into a long-term or full-time position but it’s not a guarantee. Make sure you know what your job needs are before you begin your search.
- Figure out how much free time you actually have to dedicate to a part-time job – If you have a full-time job already, make sure that a new part-time job won’t interfere with your current scheduling. For example, if your full-time job requires on-call weekends or unpredictably long days, take these into account when looking for a part-time position.
- Find something you will enjoy – If you will be taking on extra working days/hours, it’s best to find something you will enjoy. Think about hobbies or areas of expertise that might help you get through the longer days/weeks.
