How to Save Money on Your Energy Bill

The key to saving money on your energy bill is to find the energy leaks around your home and plug them up and to also use less energy.

  1. Pinpoint energy drains. Household electronics use energy even when the seem to be off. DVD players, for example, still use power to keep the clock set properly. These excess energy drains could save you a lot of money. Other electronics include, PC’s, printers and home stereos. Try the Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor. This little gadget allows you to find and monitor any energy leaks from your home electronics.
  2. Plug-up the power leaks. Use an office surge protector or power strip. By pluging your home electronics into a power strip you can safely turn all electronics off with a flick of the switch on the device. Once the power strip is turned off, it will stop drawing electricity and therefore stop the draw of excess energy from your electronics and save you money on your power bill every month.
  3. Control your thermostat. A programmable thermostat will allow you to adjust the temperature and save you money. You can set the home temperature while you’re away or asleep. Prices range from $30 – $120 but will soon pay for themselves in money saved.
