In many households, the cable, internet and phone connection has become a major cash drain. For example, with cable TV you are strongly encouraged to buy a more costly package to be able to get the most popular channels. We end up paying for hundreds of channels but the average viewer only watches anywhere between 15-20 channels regularly.
Money savings tips:
- Switch your landline phone service to an Internet phone service. Vonage provides their service for $24.99 a month. This might save you some money but Magic Jack seems to be the best bang for your buck; offering their product with the initial cost of $39 and then only $19 a year for the phone service. You might also want to try Skype. Skype is a free service as long as others you intend to call are also on Skype.
- Get a cheaper cell phone service. Try going with a pre-paid service if you use less than 200 minutes in a single month. Prepaid services can charge anywhere from 10 cents to 60 cents a minute, so shop around. You will also need a compatible phone which will cost $30 – $300.
- Get your cell phone service from Amazon.com Many cell phone services will offer their best deals on Amazon, usually with a rebate. One catch, most of these deals are for new service plans or new customers. But if you like your carrier, ask it to match Amazon’s deal.
